2IIM's GD and PI contact classes commence on Sunday, January 6, 2008. The GDPI classes are held in the city of Chennai.
Cracking the CAT anad the written tests of some of the best B Schools in the country is a feat in itself. However, that is just one of the most difficult stages that you have crossed in your race to securing a seat in the IIMs. The next two stages are equally important. Having cracked the written test, you should leave no stone unturned to convert the GD PI calls into one or more IIM admissions.
Most aspirants do not start their preparation for Group Discussions and Personal Interviews until after receiving the call letters from the IIMs. And, in many cases, it might just be a little too late. So, if you are keen on securing an admission into the IIMs, it is time you got cracking with your GD - PI preparation.
2IIM's GDPI Course Structure
Refresher Course on Concepts
The preparation for the GD-PI at 2IIM starts with a crash course on various Economic, Business and Technology topics. While most of us know that one's group behaviour skills is one of the important aspects that is evaluated in a GD, what many of us tend to ignore is that contextual familiarity and conceptual clarity of the candidate are given equal, if not more importance. The refresher is aimed at getting you acquainted to relevant content. A partial list of the topics covered include
- Introduction to GDP, GNP, Fiscal Deficit and related topics.
- Refresher in foreign exchange rate, forex reserves, convertibility and related topics.
- Refresher on economic reforms in India and brief overview of how various sectors in the economy.
- Overview of commonly used banking terms like CRR, SLR, PLR, bank rates.
- Overview of how the stock market works and refresher on GDR, ECB, ADR and derivatives trading.
- Overview of the infamous corporate scams such as Enron, Worldcomm, Arthur Andersen and the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
- Refresher on Telecom sector liberalization in India and a comparison of technologies such as CDMA, GSM, GPRS, Wireless LAN.
- Refresher on the emerging communication technologies - viz., CDMA, GSM, 3G etc.,
Student Presentations
Students will be assigned topics that are relevant in the current scenario and will be asked to make presentations. In addition to a few sample topics that are given below, students working in the Software, Financial Services, Insurance sectors will make presentations about their respective industries.
- Present situation in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and the rest of Middle East
- India's case for a permanent seat on the security council of UN
- India US Nuclear deal
- SriLankan Peace Process
Mock GDs
The refresher course is followed by Mock GDs. Each participant will have the opportunity to participate in adequate number of GDs to help him/her overcome all misgivings in GDs. Individual and group feedback sessions follow, to help you hone your skills.
Personal Interviews
Each participant will go through a series of interviews (minimum 3) and will be interviewed by a panel comprising graduates from top B Schools who are presently working in various capacity in the Indian industry. Individual feedback will be provided and progress monitored over the course of the series of interviews.
In addition, those candidates who have got calls from top b schools can have mock interviews scheduled a few days before their actual interview date to help them gain confidence and hone their answers.
Course Material
Study material covering basic dos and donts in a GD and Personal Interview and a list of topics that have appeared in the past in the GDs of IIMs and top B Schools with pointers on what to discuss in some of the important topics will be provided. In addition, the study material will also contain a list of questions asked in the personal interviews in CAT in the past.
Faculty
The faculty comprises graduates from top B Schools such as the IIMs with industry experience.
Weekend Batch Schedule
It is a 8-weekends program. Classes for the weekend batch will be held on Saturday (3 p.m to 5 p.m) and Sun (3 p.m to 5 p.m) at our Mylapore Center. The course starts on Jan 6, 2008.
